Embracing the Elements: Capturing Unique and Beautiful Photos Rain or Shine in Maui

Maui is a stunning location for a photography session. With its tropical landscapes, white sandy beaches, and crystal clear waters, Maui is ideal for capturing beautiful moments. However, one of the challenges of planning a photography session on Maui is the unpredictable weather. The West Maui Mountains are home to Mount Pu'u Kukui, the second wettest place on Earth, meaning rain is always possible.

But don't let the rain dampen your Maui photography session. As a professional photographer based in Lahaina, HI, I understand the importance of a backup plan in case of adverse weather. That's why I always have several options when faced with challenging weather, so you don't have to worry about your photos being ruined by rain.

Here are some of the options we have when planning for adverse weather:

Picking a backup date and time

Once we schedule your session, you will receive a contract and questionnaire. In this document, you can fill out a "backup date," which will be used in the event of adverse weather. This is so that we both have a tentative date to plan for with fewer surprises due to the weather.

Reading the forecast

We typically refer to the backup date if rain is forecasted for a sunrise session. Due to the early morning, I prefer to err on the side of caution (especially if little ones are coming along). If we are planning a sunset session, we will keep an eye on the weather. Sometimes cloudy evenings make for the most stunning sunsets, and we may even catch a rainbow!

Planning for a different beach OR LOCATION

The island's south side (Kihei and Wailea) has what is considered a desert climate. This means that if the West Side beaches don't work, we could drive a bit further to catch the sunrise or sunset where there is better weather. There are so many beautiful beaches in Maui, and we will always find the perfect location for your photos.

JUST GO WITH IT

Despite our best efforts, rescheduling may not be an option. I have a beautiful clear rain umbrella that we can add during any rain for your session and a protective cover for my camera so I don’t miss a thing. This is a great way to take advantage of our time and create some truly special art that will have a fun story for years to come!

Rain may seem like a hassle, but it can add a unique and beautiful dimension to your photos. Maui's lush greenery is largely due to its rainfall, making it a stunning backdrop. And don't worry, as your professional photographer; I am always prepared to capture the best possible photos, rain or shine.

So, don't let the possibility of rain stop you from booking your Maui photography session. Reach out today, and let's plan a beautiful photo session you will treasure for years.
